Primary HealthCare have embarked on a project to replace the existing
paper-based system in Health Centres and provide a robust basis for
patient-record keeping by family doctors and other health professionals in
Primary HealthCare for improved continuity of care. All professionals including receptionists, doctors, nurses, allied
health professionals and administrative staff received adequate training on
this system prior to the roll out.
We have started the project in November 2019, and we have rolled
out the Electronic Patient Records in all the Health Centres by May 2020 in
this order:
- Kirkop Health Centre
- Cospicua Health Centre
- Paola Health Centre
- Rabat Health Centre
- B’Kara Health Centre
- Mosta Health Centre
- Victoria Health Centre –
Gozo
- Qormi Health Centre
- Gzira Health Centre
- Floriana Health Centre
In parallel to this we have provided onsite support for at least a week
and more for the larger centres to ensure that any issues that may crop up are
solved immediately there and then. This has resulted in a very successful
implementation and a quantum leap that has transformed Primary HealthCare to a
totally paperless entity with universal access of patient’s medical records on
a 24/7 basis to all those that are authorised to do so for patient care and
follow up. This will bring out a number of infrastructural improvements from a
technology point of view, including the introduction of new devices and other
supporting tools such as a real time dashboard and a holistic care plan for
patients with Diabetes Mellitus. From the patient perspective, this system has
enhanced patient safety, effective and efficient care and keeps a trace of all
that is happening to our clients.
This project is one of the seven components of the CONvErGE Project and
it’s part financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The system is
interfaced with other relevant Health IT Systems in the Maltese Healthcare
System.
