GP Appointment Clinics
(GPAC)
The PHCD operates from eight main health
centres, together with a network of community clinics, popularly known as bereġ. One of the main goals of the PHCD is to foster
and enhance continuity of information – which is already being achieved through
the EPR (electronic patient record) – but also continuity of care.
To address better continuity of care, PHCD is
steadily refurbishing the various community clinics in Malta. Once the
refurbishment is completed, these community clinics are housing a variety of
health care professionals and services. Amongst these, there is the GP
appointment clinic (GPAC). The GPAC is an appointment-only clinic which is
run by a selected pool of GPs. Via this structured approach, patients can fix
appointments for follow-up of common chronic conditions and also to discuss
various issues with the GP. The approach adopted is to reach out to the various
patients in the different villages and towns in Malta, thereby facilitating the
necessary reviews of the conditions. Besides managing common conditions such as
hypertension, blood tests can be booked at this clinic as well as review of the
medications being taken by the patient. To set-up an appointment at the GPAC, a
patient can call our call centre on 21231231 or 21222444 and ask to have an
appointment at the respective local community clinic.
