National Oral Health Survey

The Dental Public Health Unit is responsible for the National Oral Health Survey, which is a survey carried out at regular intervals to gather information about the oral health of the different age groups in the Maltese population.

The first pathfinder Survey was carried out by the Department of Health in 1987.
The first National Oral Health Survey on Children’s Oral Health was then carried out in 2003/2004 by Vassallo and Portelli.
The latest National Oral Health Survey in children was carried out between 2013 and 2016, and the report for this survey is in the last stages of preparation for publication.
The first National Oral Health Survey in adults is currently underway.

The latest National Oral Health Surveys are being carried out in a collaboration between the Dental Public Health Unit, the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the University of Malta and the Department for Health Information and Research.
