What is the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit?
The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is a 6 bedded mixed unit that mostly deals with immediate post operative heart or chest surgery which needs intensive medical and nursing care. Patients are admitted to this ward mainly as planned admissions from the Operating Theatres. However there are occasions where admissions occur due to an emergency.
In most cases, these patients are then transferred to the Cardiac Surgical Ward for further observation, treatment and rehabilitation.

Meal times
Patients have the opportunity to order their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will consult with each patient in the morning to collect the order. The food that is ordered will be for the next day.

Breakfast: 8.00am to 8.30am
Lunch: 11.10am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.10pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times
On admission, the nearest relatives are allowed to visit the patient and an explanation by the nurse regarding the patient’s condition is given.

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives at the sole discretion of the Nursing Officer.
